Description

The pottery industry of Munshiganj district has a history of hundreds of years. At one time there was a great demand for pottery made by the potters here. This dead art was also available in the haat-bazaars of different districts to meet the demand of the locals. But despite the demand for clay-made pottery in the evolution of time, this traditional pottery industry of hundreds of years is on the verge of extinction. Copper, plastic, and silver have taken over the pottery industry. The utensils that once used to meet the needs of the household, including cooking utensils such as kadai, badna, hara, flower tubs, kalash, pithar kajal, and curry items, are now disappearing. There are 46 Kumar families in the district. Hundreds of members of these families still make their own clay products and sell them in the market. However, the demand for modern plastic products has increased. So farmers are left unemployed. In the meantime, many Kumars from different parts of the district have changed their profession. Now some of them are working in gold, some are working as blacksmiths abroad. In this village, the wheel of Kumar is running in almost every house day and night. Some are soaking the soil with water, others are drying the soil in the sun, and still others are burning the bones. A lot of people are busy painting things.
